was this selfish of me?

I work in a nursing home. I’m 8 mos pregnant and today was my last day I was supposed to work. I have been fighting a cold for 4daysnow and the last two days I worked I was sick and it was 80 degrees on our unit which made my sinuses even worse my teeth and my eyes hurt and made it even more miserable to bend and lift than it already is. Today I called in sick and my supervisor gave me hell. She told me that theres no reason for me not to come in since I did’nt have a drs excuse. I told her i worked the last couple days sick and it wasn’t worth it as I’m still sick and my babyshower is tomorrow I want to feel decent. She said that the residents are more important than my babyshower…….blah blah blah. Basically made me feel even though I had to be there from 2pm-10pm (my whole day!!)on xmas eve and xmas I didnt get anytime to be with MY family I was with those residents. Is it just the hormones or would you be mad too?

No that was not selfish at all. The only was who was being selfish and unreasonable was your boss. You did the right thing by calling in sick. It would give yourself time to fight this cold(which is harder when you are pregnant) and it is better for the residents at the home not to be around you while you are ill, because most of their immune systems are low and can not fight off little things such as a cold.
That was so selfish and inconsiderate of your boss to tell you that your baby shower is not important. It is more important then the residents, because that is your family.
To be honest if I was you I would have lost it on the boss, I would have burst her little bubble and put her in her place, before she could have said hello.
